Online Visual Impairment Awareness Training

Individuals with a visual impairment are just regular people…family members, colleagues, service users, professionals, managers and customers – only with sight differences. With our Visual Impairment Training e-learning package, you can be fully inclusive and check your accessibility status.

Why is this course important?

It’s estimated that more than two million people in the UK live with a visual impairment (VI) that is severe enough to have a significant impact on their daily lives. This number is expected to double by 2050 due to ageing, diabetes, obesity and lifestyle factors, so being ‘VI Confident’ is an essential skill to have.

Expert Design

This course has been designed by award winning Dan Williams, our Founder, who has lived and professional experience of sight loss. Dan was diagnosed with an eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa when he was 8 years old so he’s gradually losing his sight and can now only see a small amount by using his remaining central vision.

Having lived with the emotional challenges and barriers associated with sight loss from an early age, Dan wanted to pass on what he’s learned, so in 2014 he founded Visualise to help organisations and individuals make a difference to people living with sight loss.

What do learners think of the course?

  • An excellent eye opener to the perspective of those with a visual impairment and how their experience of the world can be positive.
  • Really good course, extremely insightful in helping understand all the various visual impairments. I actually felt very emotional thinking about how this must be, so very well delivered. The videos were excellent and got the message across and were varied in style and used at the right portion of the course to keep it lively and hold attention.
  • Thank you very much for sharing so many personal stories and improving awareness I really valued this and will definitely ensure I will implement everything I have learnt to support my visually impaired colleague and anyone else I encounter with impairments. Thanks again, great job!
  • I have gained more knowledge on how to assist my colleague who has lost their sight.
  • It was very informative and think that real life situations and the presentations from individuals who live with sight loss is really effective and relatable. I hope that this course is soon available in every workplace.
