Inclusive Workplace Support for Employees who are Deaf or have Hearing Loss

At Visualise Training & Consultancy, we provide specialist Hearing Loss Workplace Assessments throughout the UK and Ireland. Whether your employee works onsite, from home, in retail, healthcare, manufacturing, or public-facing roles, we tailor our assessments to their specific role and environment—not just office-based roles.

We firmly believe that all workplaces and all roles deserve inclusive support—whether in call centres, warehouses, hospitality, or hybrid/remote settings.

What Is a Hearing Loss Workplace Assessment?

A hearing loss workplace assessment evaluates the challenges the employee faces and how they affect their ability to work effectively and safely.

Our holistic approach includes:

  • Reviewing job tasks and communication needs
  • Assessing workspace noise levels and acoustics
  • Recommending assistive technology (e.g. amplified phones, assisted listening devices)
  • Suggesting environmental adjustments (e.g. lighting, quiet zones)
  • Offering guidance on communication practices, team awareness, and support strategies

Why It Matters from a Legal and Operational Perspective

With over 5 million people of working age affected by hearing loss in the UK, it’s increasingly vital to support team members with hearing needs.

Under the Equality Act 2010, employers must make reasonable adjustments for employees with hearing challenges to ensure fair access and inclusion. Ignoring this duty can result in decreased performance, staff turnover, or potential legal claims.

Our assessments provide:

  • Clear guidance to meet your legal responsibilities under the Equality Act
  • Practical solutions that enhance safety, wellbeing, and productivity
  • Awareness training to reduce communication barriers across teams and customer interactions

What’s Included?

  • An on-site or virtual assessment
  • A detailed review of the job role and communication needs
  • Assistive technology recommendations (e.g. amplified headsets, captioning software)
  • Feedback on acoustics, lighting, layout, and quiet zones
  • Guidance on communication adjustments (e.g. speech-to-text tools, lip-reading support)
  • Manager and team awareness coaching

Frequently Asked Questions About Hearing Loss and Tinnitus Workplace Assessments

Our hearing loss and tinnitus workplace assessments cost £795 (no VAT) for a virtual workplace assessment and £995 (no VAT) for a face-to-face workplace assessment. The cost includes the full assessment and a detailed written report. There are no hidden fees.

A hearing loss or tinnitus workplace assessment typically lasts around two hours. This allows sufficient time to understand the employee’s role, communication needs, working environment and any barriers they may be experiencing.

Once we receive the workplace assessment referral form, we contact the employee directly to arrange a suitable time. After the assessment has taken place, the workplace assessment report is returned to the referring company within 10 working days.

The workplace assessment report is sent directly to the referring organisation. It provides clear, practical recommendations that can be implemented internally to support the employee effectively.

Each workplace assessment report includes tailored recommendations to support communication, assistive technology where appropriate, reasonable adjustments, and practical guidance for managers and colleagues. All recommendations are proportionate and role-specific.

Many hearing loss and tinnitus workplace assessments can be carried out virtually. In many situations, a virtual assessment allows us to review the employee’s tasks, communication needs and working environment effectively. As specialists in workplace assessments for hearing loss and tinnitus, we are experienced in identifying barriers and recommending adjustments in both virtual and face-to-face settings. Face-to-face assessments remain available where reviewing the physical workspace would be beneficial.

No. Our workplace assessments are suitable for a wide range of roles including education, healthcare, retail, operational environments, customer-facing roles and hybrid working arrangements.

Some Access to Work case managers may accept a workplace assessment report to help determine whether recommended equipment or adjustments should be funded. While funding decisions always sit with Access to Work, our reports provide detailed, practical recommendations that can support the application process.

Yes. A hearing loss or tinnitus workplace assessment can provide structured evidence and practical justification for equipment and adjustments when applying to Access to Work. Funding decisions remain at the discretion of the scheme.
