This short film follows one person with Stargardt disease and shows how colleagues can misread where they look. It takes less than a minute to watch.
Transcript
I have Stargardt disease. It affects the centre of my vision. I see better out of the corner of my eye than straight on, so I look just beside you, not at you.
People think I am not listening, or that I am shy. I am just looking where I can see.
Small print is the hardest. Names on screens. Faces across a room.
What helps? Tell me your name. Send things in large print. Ask me what works for me. It is not complicated, it is just different.
A workplace assessment looks at the person, the job and the workplace.
Small habits such as saying your name, offering large print and asking what works are exactly the kind of adjustments a workplace assessment identifies and puts in writing. If you or someone in your team is visually impaired and would like expert, tailored support to stay productive and comfortable at work, visit https://visualisetrainingandconsultancy.com/workplace-assessments/visual-impairment-workplace-assessments/ to arrange a visual impairment workplace assessment.
