This short film follows one person on their first day at work, and shows how clear spoken directions can replace pointing. It takes under a minute to watch.

First day, a friendly colleague offers to show me around. “The kitchen is over there.” She points. I nod politely. Over where?
“The meeting rooms are down there.” “Pass that thing.” I smile. I have no idea.
Now try it with words. “The kitchen is ten steps ahead. The door is on your left.” Ten steps. Door on the left. I walk straight there.
It is a tiny habit. Say it. Why point at it? Clear words cost nothing. A workplace assessment looks at the person, the job and the workplace.
Getting around a new building safely and confidently is one of the things a workplace assessment looks at, along with the habits colleagues can adopt from day one. If you or someone in your team is visually impaired and would like expert, tailored support to stay productive and comfortable at work, visit https://visualisetrainingandconsultancy.com/workplace-assessments/visual-impairment-workplace-assessments/ to arrange a visual impairment workplace assessment.
