Whose Room Is It? Speak to the Blind Person Directly (Short Film)

This short film follows one person who uses a cane as they walk into a room to give a talk, and shows what changes when people listen. It takes under a minute to watch.

Transcript

I was invited to give a talk, a normal day, a normal room. I walk in with my cane. The room goes quiet, people look. Then they look at whoever is with me. They talk to them, not to me.

I can feel decisions being made before I have said a word.

Then I start to speak about my work. The same work as anyone. The room changes, not because I changed, because they listened.

A room belongs to everyone in it. Making it work for each of us is part of the job. A workplace assessment looks at the person, the job, and the workplace.

A workplace assessment helps teams move from assumptions to asking, and sets out what each person needs to do their job well. If you or someone in your team is visually impaired and would like expert, tailored support to stay productive and comfortable at work, visit https://visualisetrainingandconsultancy.com/workplace-assessments/visual-impairment-workplace-assessments/ to arrange a visual impairment workplace assessment.
